We are excited about the new AMC--> 10 exam, which began this year. More than 3000 NC students participated, and 43 achieved the threshold score of 116 to qualify for the AIME. Check our NC AHSME web page: http://www.math.uncc.edu/~hbreiter/ for several a complete set of results, and papers discussing the history and future of the American Math Competitions. We take this opportunity to thank Duke Energy, Carolina Power & Light, and The Public Service Company of North Carolina and Microsoft Corp. for making possible the lovely reception for top middle and high school mathematics students with the State Board of Education and the state superintendent April 26, 2000. For a copy of the program for that event, visit http://www.math.uncc.edu/~hbreiter/AHSME/program.html.
We are pleased to report that North Carolina had three Edith M. Sliffe award winners at the middle school level. They are Patricia Heald-of Ligon Middle in Raleigh, Jeanette Rojeski of Aycock Middle in Greeensboro, and Angela Short of Phillips Middle in Chapel Hill. Congratualtions to all three of the fine teacher/coaches.
For immediate release. For more information, contact Harold or Betty Reiter, Department of Mathematics UNCC, Charlotte NC 28223, (704) 547-4561 or (704) 364-5699 (home).
