Actuarial Science Program

Actuarial Science is an important field of Applied Mathematics. It requires Mathematical and Statistical skills to study and analyze uncertain events in the insurance and financial fields. 

An Actuary needs to know Calculus, Differential Equations, Linear Algebra, Probability and Statistics, Interest Theory, etc. In addition, an Actuary has to learn some Finance, Accounting, Economics, and some other topics in Insurance. 

Start your Actuarial Career by taking a BA degree in Mathematics with a concentration in Actuarial Science. A major in Mathematics for the BA degree with a concentration in Actuarial Science consists of a minimum of 34 semester hours in mathematics and statistics courses and 18 semester hours from the Belk College of Business . In addition all students must meet the general education requirements of the University (See Catalog)

MATH 2171 Differential Equations

MATH 2428 Mathematical Theory of Interest
MATH 3163 Introduction to Modern Algebra
MATH 3688 Mathematics Awareness Seminar
MATH 3689 or MATH 3791: Senior Project Seminar or Senior Honors Tutorial
MATH 3122, 3123 Probability and Statistics I and II
MATH 3128, 3129 Actuarial Mathematics I and II
STAT 3110, 3150 are strongly recommended to get Actuarial VEE credits. 

MATH 4051 is also recommended.
